BASIC NEEDS

Home, Health & Education

Education and literacy are important keys to breaking the cycle of poverty. Children of low-income families face a number of challenges at school, among them not having the tools they need.

Our program provides students with Backpacks and school supplies at the start of the school year, and we provide essential school supplies for kids in our program throughout the school year.

Having adequate supplies builds confidence and self-esteem and fosters a love for learning that will increase the number of low-income children who complete high school and go on to higher education.

Click Give to Take the $12 Backpack Challenge and provide a backpack filled with supplies valued at over $50 for a child in need.

In an effort to increase literacy, Proud to Learn provides books for children to keep. Having books at home increases the opportunity for children to read and learn and helps develop their love for reading.

In the Summer of 2012, we launched our summer reading program that also provided adult reading material in English or Spanish. Supporting parents so that they could model reading for their children. More than 500 books were given to children of all ages and their parents.

It was a huge success. To date, we have distributed over 9000 books to both children and adults and we continue to make books available each month during our Saturday Family Events.

We accept donations of school supplies and books year around.

Make a House a Home

Bridge To Hope's Make a House a Home program is made possible through the generous support of our donors and retail partners.

Every morning most of us crawl out from under the covers, pour ourselves some coffee, have a nice breakfast and get ready for work.

This normal, everyday routine isn't the reality for many of our clients. This program provides small appliances, cookware, dishes, flatware, table linens, area rugs, sheets, towels, bedding, clothing, and other basic necessities to meet the needs of the family and enhance their quality of life so they too can enjoy the everyday things most of us take for granted.

Health

People living below the standard of self-sufficiency are at greater risk for major health issues like diabetes, heart disease, and high blood pressure. Yet, many of them lack access to health screenings, care, and information to help them live healthier lives.

People who work but have a low income may not be able to afford insurance and co-payments for check-ups. We provide health screenings, education, and referrals to promote the overall wellbeing of the people we serve.
